PDF Knitting Pattern
I have long wanted to design a pattern that radiates the exact tranquility I find at the coast. The Wanderdüne (Dune) socks are the result: unpretentious, flowing, and with a special cable structure made of knit and purl stitches. The design is so relaxed to knit that you can almost hear the sound of the waves. It's not a complicated pattern where you constantly have to stare at the chart. Instead, it simply flows with the work, just like migrating sand. In the end, you'll have a sock on your foot that not only keeps you warm but also reminds you of that moment by the sea with every step.
The short cuff consists of a classic 2-knit, 2-purl pattern. The main pattern consists of a mix of cables and lace, which continues over the heel and up to the toe. If you don't like that, you can also knit the heel and toe without a pattern.
The Meaning of the Name
Dunes move in a wavelike fashion three to four meters per year, sometimes even many times more. The landscape always looks different, yet it always remains the same place. But why the name "Wanderdüne" (migrating dune)? Because these sand hills are in constant motion. The cable pattern precisely reflects this dynamic. The alternating stitches create a relief that casts new shadows depending on the light. It's the answer to the feeling of walking barefoot through warm dune sand.
